EMDR

EMDR – Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing- is a powerful psychotherapy method that aims to relieve the stress associated with traumatic memories and negative beliefs.

Our minds are designed to heal naturally, but if an event is too traumatic to process, the memory remains unprocessed and is stored in the emotional memory part of the brain. These memories are easily triggered, causing the individual to repeatedly experience the emotional stress and negative beliefs associated with the memory.

For example, someone with a history of childhood abuse may have disturbing memories of the abuse and negative beliefs such as “I’m weak” and “I’m unlovable.”

As adults, triggers such as raised voices can activate the emotional stress and negative beliefs associated with the memory, leading to behaviors that reflect these beliefs.

EMDR therapy helps process and heal these memories by stimulating both sides of the brain through eye movements, sounds, or taps while recalling the traumatic event.

EMDR therapy has been proven to be highly effective in healing trauma and produces results in significantly less time than traditional talk therapy.

It has been used successfully to treat a wide range of issues, including:

  • Anxiety and panic attacks
  • Phobias
  • Chronic diseases
  • Depression and bipolar disorders
  • Dependencies
  • Anger
  • Pain
  • Anxiety
  • Sleep disorders
  • Feelings of worthlessness and low self-esteem
  • Trauma resulting from sexual assault, violence and abuse
  • Psychosis
  • PTSD and CPTSD
  • Eating disorders

EMDR therapy can be a powerful tool in helping individuals heal from traumatic experiences and negative beliefs, leading to a more fulfilling and positive life.
